"I enjoy helping with volunteer work parties every year.  I can really see the difference we're making in the park, and I've met so many nice people who love nature as much as I do."

Our Volunteers

We organize a variety of events throughout the year, including educational field trips, in-depth trainings for aquatic invasive species work, and other activities throughout Central Wisconsin. Beyond those, there are countless daily tasks that always need a helping hand.

Ongoing:  House plant TLC needed!  If you have a green thumb and love making beautiful house plants grow, we need your help!  We have big, beautiful windows perfect for growing indoor fruit trees and plants of all kinds, BUT we are busy keeping our projects running, so we could use a hand.  Contact Amy Thorstenson at 715-346-1264 or Amy.Thorstenson(at)goldensandsrcd.org.

Ongoing:  Volunteer grant writing assistant needed!  If you have grant writing experience and want to help get good projects off the ground, we need you!  Our organization is supported fully on soft money, and grants are a big part of that.  We always have grant deadlines coming up that we could use help putting materials together for, so your talents and time would be a big help!  Contact Amy Thorstenson at 715-346-1264 or Amy.Thorstenson(at)goldensandsrcd.org

Spring, date TBD:  Purple loosestrife - can ya dig it?  Help us get our volunteers setup for the beetle rearing season by digging the roots they need to grow beetles for biocontrol.  We'll be having work parties in various locations, from Marathon County down to Green Lake County, so check with us for dates and locations.  No experience necessary.  Waders and shovels can be provided for you.  Contact Chris Hamerla or Anna Cisar at 715-343-6215 or Chris.Hamerla(at)goldensandsrcd.org or Anna.Cisar(at)goldensandsrcd.org

Summer, date TBD:  Eurasian watermilfoil handpulling, Mirror/Shadow Lakes, Waupaca.  Learn how to ID Eurasian watermilfoil, an invasive plant, and how to properly hand-pull it for non-chemical control.  Start time: 11:00 am at the boat landing.  Contact Amy Thorstenson at 715-346-1264 or Amy.Thorstenson(at)goldensandsrcd.org to learn more, find out what to wear/bring, and sign up to help.
